Education has the power to interrupt cycles of incarceration and create real pathways to opportunity—but only when institutions are willing to listen to those most impacted. Alongside my support network, we are seeking to collaborate with college administrators, educators, and students to highlight the barriers of incarceration and reentry while actively developing solutions.
Through partnerships with colleges, we aim to co-create new program curriculums, podcasts, and reentry-focused educational opportunities that ensure incarcerated individuals leave prison better equipped than when they entered. We welcome collaboration through phone conversations, video visits, letters, emails, and in-person engagement.
A powerful example of what’s possible is Whitman College’s collaboration with incarcerated individuals at Washington State Penitentiary, which led to the creation of the Concrete Mama podcast—now a highly successful, multi-platform project. Inspired by this model, we are working toward building a similar initiative at Cedar Creek Corrections Center that amplifies incarcerated voices, fosters mutual learning, and shows education and humanity do not stop at prison walls.
